You’ve found a car for your Chicago trip, but you’re not yet 25. Before you commit, check whether you can rent that car group—not just whether you can rent at all. For under-25 car rental at ORD, Avis lists a minimum rental age of 21, a $27 daily surcharge for renters under 25 and restrictions on some car groups.
Those are Avis’s published O’Hare terms, not an airport-wide rule. If you’re comparing suppliers, check each company’s ORD policy separately. Don’t assume another counter has the same age threshold, surcharge or vehicle restrictions.
A car group is the category you reserve rather than a guaranteed make and model. Avis advertises both standard and premium rentals at O’Hare, but its age-policy summary doesn’t identify which groups are unavailable to younger renters. That means the advertised selection alone isn’t enough to establish your eligibility.
Before booking, ask Avis’s ORD location: “I’ll be this age at pickup. Am I eligible for this exact car group, and what age-related charge applies?” Its published location number is (773) 825-4600. Keep the “or similar” wording in mind: confirming an eligible group doesn’t guarantee the pictured model. If you need room for passengers and bags, ask which eligible groups could meet those needs.
Include the published $27 daily surcharge in your comparison, then verify how it appears in your actual quote so you don’t count it twice or overlook it. Recheck the terms before committing, since the location’s published policy and the terms attached to your chosen rental both deserve a look. Once you’ve confirmed an eligible car group, save the reservation details and location contact information for pickup. O’Hare’s rental companies are based at the Multi-Modal Facility, which the airport says you reach from the terminals on the Airport Transit System. Resolve the age-and-class question before that ride, rather than leaving it for the counter.
