You’ve picked a car, but the card you’re bringing could change your pickup plans. If you’re renting with a debit card at ATL, Avis’s airport location lists debit cards as accepted from renters 25 and older. That’s different from its general minimum rental age of 21, so being old enough to rent doesn’t necessarily mean you can use debit.
If you’re 21–24, don’t plan on collecting an Avis car here with a debit card under that published rule. The location also lists a $27 daily surcharge for renters under 25. Before booking, ask which payment methods you can use and confirm the current surcharge in your quote. Another supplier’s requirements may differ; don’t treat Avis’s cutoff as an airport-wide policy.
If you’re 25 or older, you meet the published debit-card age threshold, but that statement alone isn’t a complete payment checklist. Call the ATL Avis location at 404-763-6333 and ask whether your particular card is eligible, what documents you’ll need and how much money must be available at pickup. Ask specifically about paying when you collect the car, not just settling the bill at return.
It’s also worth asking whether a deposit or authorization hold applies and when any held funds would be released. A hold temporarily sets money aside rather than making it available for you to spend. Get the location’s answer before deciding how much money to leave in the account; the published age rule doesn’t establish those details.
If you’re visiting from another country, add a document check to that conversation. Avis’s ATL page says most international renters need a passport or visa in addition to their driver’s license and credit card. Because that guidance specifically mentions a credit card, don’t assume the separate debit-card statement answers your situation. Ask the location to confirm the combination of identification and payment it will accept from you.
Resolve those questions before making the trip to the counter. ATL’s rental companies operate at the separate Rental Car Center, and Avis lists its address as 2200 Rental Car Center Parkway in College Park—not inside your arrival terminal. Save the location’s number and your reservation terms, then review the payment requirements and any age-related charge before signing the rental agreement.
