Renting a car at MIA with a debit card: what to check
Before renting a car at MIA with a debit card, confirm that your pickup location accepts it for your chosen car class and ask about payment requirements.

You’ve found a car that fits your Miami plans, but you’re planning to use a debit card at pickup. Can you rent a car at MIA with a debit card? Don’t assume every vehicle qualifies: Avis’s MIA location specifically lists debit-card restrictions for some car groups. Get confirmation for your chosen category before you book.
Start with the car class—the category you’re reserving, rather than the example model pictured. Ask the pickup location, “Can I rent this class with my debit card?” Keep the “or similar” wording in mind: you’re not being promised that exact model. If you need a different eligible category, check that it still suits your passengers and luggage.
Next, separate paying for the booking from qualifying to collect the car. Ask whether your debit card can be used at pickup, whether it must be in the main driver’s name, and what identification or other documents you’ll need. Those are questions to resolve with your supplier, not universal requirements established by the available MIA information.
Ask about the money side just as directly: “What amount would you charge or hold at pickup, and when would any hold be released?” A hold temporarily makes money unavailable. Get the location’s answer before deciding how much spending money to leave in that account; the cited Avis information doesn’t establish a deposit amount or release timeline.
Save the payment conditions alongside your confirmation so you can find them without digging through email at the counter. If you’re booking through Booking.com, read the supplier’s conditions for the selected offer and resolve anything unclear with the pickup location. ROAM provides preparation advice; it doesn’t take bookings or payments.
If the counter says your card doesn’t qualify, ask which condition isn’t met and whether another eligible car class would solve the problem. Before accepting a change, check the revised total and whether the replacement has enough room. Confirm the actual pickup branch when seeking advice: both Avis and Enterprise list MIA locations at 3900 NW 25th St, but one company’s payment answer shouldn’t be treated as the other’s policy.
