You’ve collected your bags, but your rental confirmation lists a street address instead of a terminal counter. For rental car pickup at LAX, Enterprise and Hertz direct arriving passengers to courtesy shuttles outside baggage claim, under purple rental-car signs. Save your supplier’s pickup instructions before you fly so you’re not sorting out directions with a suitcase in each hand.
The curb details matter. Hertz says to use the purple Rental Car Shuttle sign outside baggage claim on the Lower/Arrivals level. Enterprise specifies the center island outside each terminal, at the purple sign reading Rental Car Shuttles. Follow your company’s instructions rather than heading toward a different ground-transportation pickup area.
Check which company a shuttle serves before boarding. A useful question is, “Does this shuttle take me to my rental company’s pickup counter?” If the signs or curb arrangements don’t match your saved instructions, ask airport staff or contact the rental location using the number on your confirmation rather than guessing.
Enterprise, Hertz and Avis list their LAX rental locations at 5251 West 98th Street, Los Angeles. That shared address doesn’t tell you everything about finding your counter: Enterprise specifically identifies its location as the fifth floor of the Consolidated Car Rental Center. Save the company name and any floor instructions alongside the address.
Don’t treat the shuttle ride as the end of the pickup process. You still need to find your supplier’s counter or designated pickup area and complete any required checks before collecting the car. As practical planning advice, leave breathing room before your first timed activity rather than scheduling it immediately after your flight lands.
Keep your pickup documents accessible, not buried in your checked bag. Avis tells renters to have their driver’s license and credit or debit card ready, and says international renters must present their passport and driver’s license. Card acceptance has conditions—Avis lists debit-card acceptance for renters 25 and older—so check your own supplier’s requirements before relying on a particular card.
Before departure, put your confirmation, current arrival instructions, rental-location phone number and required documents together on your phone or in an easy-to-reach pocket. Recheck the supplier’s directions close to travel, especially if an older screenshot gives a different address. Your confirmation and current location instructions are more useful than a generic airport map when you’re trying to find the right counter.
