Hoover Dam without the queue
Where to park, when to arrive, and why the Arizona side gives you the better photograph.

Hoover Dam is forty-five minutes from the airport and, handled badly, four hours of your day. Handled well, it is two.
Arrive before nine or after three. The security checkpoint on the approach road is the bottleneck, and mid-morning coach traffic is what turns a short visit long.
The parking garage on the Nevada side is paid and shaded. The Arizona-side lots are free, usually emptier, and the walk back across gives you the view most people photograph.
The Memorial Bridge walkway is the single best free vantage point and takes about fifteen minutes from the parking area.
