You can take an Avis Denver airport rental car across state lines within the continental U.S., but check your supplier’s rules, return plan and authorized drivers first.

You’re landing in Denver, but your road trip doesn’t stop at the Colorado border. Can you take a Denver airport rental car out of state? For Avis at DEN, the published answer is yes: its location page says you can drive anywhere in the continental U.S. with no restrictions. If you’re choosing another company, confirm its geographic rules before you book.

Treat that Avis statement as permission about where you can drive—not a promise that every rental company has the same policy. Send your supplier a simple question: “I’m picking up at DEN and driving through these states. Is that allowed under this rental?” Keep the response with your reservation details so you have something concrete to refer to at pickup.

Keep international borders separate from state lines. Avis’s continental-U.S. statement doesn’t establish permission to enter Canada or Mexico. If either country is on your route, ask specifically about border permission and any required documents before committing to that itinerary.

Also separate where you can drive from where you can return the car. A Colorado-to-Utah loop ending back at DEN is a different plan from leaving the car in another city. The Avis driving statement doesn’t establish one-way return terms. If you want a different drop-off location, enter it when comparing reservations on Booking.com and check the quoted total and return conditions rather than assuming it’s covered.

Sharing the miles? Sort out who’s authorized to drive, too. National’s DEN page lists a $15-per-day charge for each additional authorized driver unless other contractual conditions apply. That’s National’s published policy, not a universal DEN fee. Ask your chosen supplier which drivers must be added, what they need to present and whether an exception applies to your reservation.

Before you leave the lot, compare the rental agreement with your actual route, return location and driver list. If something doesn’t match, ask the supplier to clarify it before you drive away. ROAM helps you prepare; bookings happen on Booking.com, and the rental company is the place to resolve questions about its driving permissions and agreement.
