Before planning to drive a DFW rental car into Mexico, check your supplier’s restrictions—Avis lists a narrow corporate-customer exception.

You’re landing at DFW and planning a road trip that continues into Mexico. Can you drive your DFW rental car across the border? Don’t assume you can. Avis’s DFW location page says travel into Mexico is generally not allowed, except for corporate customers who purchase additional insurance. If you’re renting for a personal vacation, don’t plan around that exception.
That’s an Avis-specific restriction, not proof that every company at the airport has the same policy. DFW lists 11 rental companies at its Rental Car Center. Before you book, ask your chosen supplier whether your particular rental can enter Mexico, giving your pickup location, travel dates and intended destinations.
Make the question specific: “Does this DFW rental agreement permit me to drive into Mexico?” Ask for the applicable terms in writing. A general answer about taking a rental on a road trip isn’t the same as permission to cross an international border.
If you think the Avis corporate exception might apply, ask Avis to confirm your eligibility and explain the required additional insurance before making plans. Don’t treat an ordinary coverage selection as permission to cross. Also ask what documents and procedures would apply to an approved trip; the supplied DFW policy summary doesn’t establish those details.
If your supplier won’t authorize the crossing, keep that rental’s itinerary within its permitted area and arrange the Mexico portion separately. If you’ve already booked, check the reservation’s change or cancellation terms through the service you used. It’s better to resolve the route before pickup than to arrive with a plan the rental agreement won’t allow.
Use pickup as a final check, not your first inquiry. DFW’s Rental Car Center is at 2424 E. 38th Street, near the airport’s south entrance. Before driving away, confirm that the agreement matches any permission you received and keep the relevant terms accessible during your trip. If the counter’s answer conflicts with earlier advice, resolve it before committing to the border-bound route.
