Adding an Additional Driver to Your Las Vegas Rental Car

If you want to share the driving, check your supplier’s eligibility rules and get any additional driver sorted out at pickup.

You’re ready to split the driving after your flight, but is your travel partner ready to take the wheel? Adding an additional driver to your Las Vegas rental car is something to sort out before leaving the rental facility. Ask your supplier who can drive, what paperwork they need and whether a charge applies—don’t assume traveling together settles it.

For a concrete example, Avis’s LAS location page lists an additional-driver fee of $11 per day in Nevada. Treat that as an Avis-specific reference, not an airport-wide rule, and confirm the charge for your reservation before accepting the agreement.

That same Avis page says spouses or partners and coworkers who meet eligibility requirements are exempt from the additional-driver fee. The eligibility qualifier matters: if you think an exemption fits your situation, ask the counter agent to confirm it. A fee exemption alone doesn’t tell you what steps, if any, are needed to authorize that person to drive.

Before your trip, contact your rental company and ask whether the extra driver must be present at pickup, which license or identification documents they should bring, and whether age restrictions apply. If you’re relying on a spouse, partner or coworker exemption, ask how eligibility is established. Getting those answers before flying is easier than discovering you’re missing something at the counter.

Build that conversation into your pickup plan. The LAS Rent-A-Car Center is at 7135 Gilespie Street, three miles south of the airport; Avis lists that address for its LAS location. Have your reservation details and the supplier’s answers handy so you can explain exactly who wants to share the driving.

Before you leave, ask the agent to show you how the agreement handles authorized drivers and any additional-driver charge or exemption. If something doesn’t match what you expected, resolve it there. If your companion can’t be approved, plan around the confirmed driver rather than assuming you can swap seats later.
